my kid's start talking about their birthdays as soon as one passes. they plan, they change plans & they change plans again. i usually have to remind them to focus on the "next holiday" i.e. easter, christmas, halloween (since their birthday is usually still months away during these strategic planning meetings). when it gets close to their actual birthday month i always give them a choice: a whole day at disneyland with all the rides, cotton candy & fun you could ever want or a party with friends. this year wasn't even a question for faith, it was "scooter's jungle!" or bust! even though morning sickness was in full swing for me... the party had to go on. we spent 3 hours playing, sliding, hide & seeking & eating: (pizza, fruit, peanut butter-pretzels, goldfish, fruit roll ups, pasta salad & cake). she was all smiles & giggles the entire time & loved every minute of it (except for when they put a crown on her... it cramped her style). even though the party route is usually more work, the smiles on their faces & the memories they make are worth every bit. happy birthday to my little six year old!
